I have waited nearly a week for someone to jump into this conversation. If Deborah Meier’s passionate thoughts are “fightin’ words” who, exactly, would she be tempting into a brawl?

Because she’s correct. Narrowing a definition of “equality” down to raised test scores is a thin, stingy policy goal for a nation that prides itself on opportunity.
